"I hope this mix stands out from everything else people are hitting you with. Instead of playing all the obvious classics we all know and love, I pulled together all the remixes, remakes, re-redits, b-sides, and demos I could find. The result is a mix of hiphop, reggae, house, samba, boogie, and of course soul."

So... Here it is.

Ganguro oh elmo...

Was reading the world news this morn, alot of shiyut happening around the globe yet again. Bombs, floods, etc...;-( Got quite depressed, until I came across the article and vid on Japan's Fashion Rebellion Goes West.

Manba and Yamanba are GANGURO extremists, an underground youth culture in Japan which makes a rebellious fashion statement against traditional rules on Asian beauty. I've been intrigued by these ladiez kinda-lookin-like-a-photo-negative for yearz! I'm even more fascinated now that British teens are becoming fanatics almost 2 decades later. Oh and dudez are in on it too!

Miz Fuze sez get that spray tan on and silver-fy your hair!

On an underground jazz tip, I had to let ya'll know that VENEZIA is more importantly, hehe, the BIRTHPLACE to a nu label & club ELEFANTE ROSSO!!! See their blog for their latest event, PLANETS: SPIRITUAL WORLD JAZZ. These fellas are SUPA DOPIO and give us all the more reason to delve into the art and culture separate from the gondolas and all that glass blowing. ;-P

Miz Fuze gives bday shouts HEAVIER than a 10,000 pound elephant to Rabih & Crew!

LA BIENNALE!!!!!! VENEZIA!

Did I tell ya already that Italian artistes ELECTRICUTE MY WORLD? Well, don't get me started on La Biennale di Venezia's MAKING WORLDS! Ya gotz to go to the 53rd International Art Exhibition that takes over Venice from June till November. Innovators from Jerusalem, Santa Monica, Mumbai, Milan...

My soulful bud Sebby of Soulmates Stockholm posted some picz up yesterday of his explorations and I just had to share one of em witcha.

Ain't it mind expansive? At first I thought it was a drawing BUT it ain't! It's a wire sculpture, lookin' like a mitochondria or an atom or someting!

AND if ya really want to overload the synapses with inspiration, go the last week of September and you can also experience THE BODY OF SOUND! Full on futurist orchestras! ;-D

TACK SÅ MYCKETS to my sweet sis KISSEY and her goofy sis Christel for breaking my Swedish lake virginity before the Raw Fusion gig! A wee bit of a shutter bug I am, hence the delay, no skimpy shotz here tho. :-(

FLY em recordz like a UFO!

I WISH!!! Check the VOID LP player by Korean designer Rhea Jeong.

"The record player uses a carrier and dock outfitted with a magnetic and auto-calibrating control system which carries the LP into thin air as it is playing music. A self-running record player shaped in the form of a red sphere, contains a needle, amplifier and speaker, spins around the record, bringing the music to life."

Gonna put on my bikini...

and slip around to APHEX TWIN's Windowlicker!!! Can ya believe it's been over 10 yearz since that track first dropped on our glutenous maximuseses? And who could forget that FREAKIN' music vid that left us all speechless. Directed by the one and only Chris Cunningham.

Lick the full length vid right here kiddie winkz!

Miz fuze must thank IisiJii and Prefuse 73 for takin' her back.

ebony bones.

A modern day SKUNK ANANSIE perhapz? Lookin' a bit like Erykah Badu but sounding more like another Santogold cos that's more in style. ha!

I'M IN LOVE wit EBONY BONES' PSYCHEDELIC VOODOO CHARM, the effort put into makin' sure every band member is donned, reminding me a bit of George Clinton BUT without that SOPHISTICATED FUNK. Don't get me wrong, she's MAD RAW! I dig that! Em tribal rhythmz mixed in wit all that post-punk, but I can't help but be reminded of one of my addictions - J*Davey goin' rock and me wanting to regurgitate my pet goldfish. Sorry I had to say it. It's just so hard to tell who is genuine these dayz. I mean Betty Davis is as REAL as it getz!!!

I'd really luv a CRAZY LADY to do a metal album with some EPIC double kick patterns. 16th notes in unison shiyut!!! That would FREAK me right out!!! Hmmm maybe I should do a track like that! What ya think? ;-P

Interview with the Nuttyman!

NUTRIOT is one of my fave BEAT blogz out there! Why? Cos Tetsuo is alwayz soOo on top of it. Before anyone breathes the dude has blogged about it. ha! Be it nu artistes, nu vidz, nu trax...

One fine bizZee day we were able to get on the skypey and chitty chat. Supa assertive and questions tumblin' faster than my knickerz on the delicate cycle. Yikes! haha. Check In Conversation with Amalia as well as New Bits from Mark de Clive-Lowe. He just finished producing Dutch trumpeter Rob Van Den Wouw. The album is BRILLIANT! Really naaaah! Who would expect anything less than greatness from Mashi? ;-D

Picz from Nikkita

Had to post these sweet onez from last month's 'From Me To You'.Thanku Nikki! Yep that's me, the little "Philipinenut" on the mic with Taras 3000. That's Swedish producer Lisa Jonsson borrowing my hair below. haha

I'm still recoupin' from all the Swedish lake diving. I'm talkin' wedgies and belly flopz galore all before last nite's Raw Fusion gig I hosted, soOoo while ya sit tight, hehe, check Mr. Robotnick. See his myspace also.

I'm really diggin' what the Italians are up to at the mo. Ad Bourke and Hugo ELECTRICUTE MY WORLD!

Ay Ay Captain!

I will not mourn, I refuse to mourn! Instead I ask ya to celebrate MICHAEL's SUPERNATURALITY! He has been and alwayz will be LARGER THAN LIFE!

I'm gettin' heavy all of a sudden, cos I fear he may have left with a broken heart, that amidst all the boooOosh that has happened, he probably had no idea how much we all loved him. As Zen would say, "MICHAEL IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN incapable of harming a fly..."

Thankyou for blessing us with your gift of music and spreading your unconditional love. Yes you were an eccentric cheezeball and that's why we loved ya!

I will never forget gettin' spooked out by THRILLER as a child, diving over that sofa, and all the nightmares. haha I will never forget MOONWALKER and excitedly going to Epcot center in 1986 to check -

CAPTAIN EO IN 3-D!!!

Mi Amigo Senor Rhino.

Only in Kungsholmen would I find 35% of a REAL rhino and around 90% of a polar bear [stuffed of course] chillin' in a clothing store as decoration. Hmmm and I'm messed up cos I hate the fact that these creatures were killed yet remain AMAZED by their awkward MAJESTY in the window...

FUNKY FOREST: The First Contact

"The one who controls the sounds made by all living creatures." My fave scene from Japanese movie Funky Forest aka Naisu no Mori!!! Written and directed by Katsuhito Ishii & Hajime Ishimine. MAGICAL! Arigato.

Miz Fuze sez now now don't get too turned on...

Synthesize ME!

Ya gotz to check out Terri Timely's creative masterpiece of a short film, SYNESTHESIA. I would be that kid sniffin' the records oh and that first lump of grass that shoots out! hehe. Reminds me a little of FUNKY FOREST. I'll post it up top so ya see what I mean. ;-)

SYNESTHESIA. “A condition in which one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another, as when the hearing of a sound produces the visualization of a color.”

MISTRESS OF CEREMONIES

1. I'm hostin' RAW FUSION'S SUMMER FINALE!

2. I met Nickodemus 5 yearz ago but surely he can't remember. ;-P

3. I just got a major flashback.

Year - 2004. Sekoya had just finished its debut tour of all the jazz festivals in Canada and I thought what better way to go out with a BAZOOKA BUBBLE GUM BANG that Summer than to treat myself to a well deserved first bite of the BIG apple.

Oh and it ain't no apple, more like a fat juicy WATERMELON!!!

My jazz groupie-jet-settin-jewelry-designer of a sweet girlie Lola, met me at Grand Central [yeh Larry Graham was stuck in my head] Had just hopped
into a gypsy cab with my nu theatrical mate Cole from Detroit. The cab driver was a spittin' image of the little evil guy from the movie Ghost, what's that actor's name? He's in Carlito's Way. FREAKY SILLY!!!

Anywayz - Cole was meeting up with his 2 handsome gay lovers at Grand Central hence us travellin' 2geth. I gave em Sekoya's album and anotha to pass onto they're neighbor - Madonna's Daddy. Imagine him having a divine intervention over some nujazz...

From there we trekked to Dominican Republic Harlem where Lola was apt sitting. Ice Tea in Mickie Deez, multi-coloured babies, Floritas - plantain and chili, on the corner - sweet potato pie!!! DAMN OH DAMN and every night was jazz up to my skull, feet achin' thru to my neurons, and dollarz pourin' out of my pockets! Broke in 5 dayz!

The Fat Cat where ping pong and jazz collided, hangin' with Blossom Dearie at Danny's Skylight Room [one of the wittiest lyricists in jazz], Lewis Nash at The Village Vanguard [HEAVY HEAVY!], Savion Glover at B.B King's, Eartha Kitt at The Blue Note, Nuyorican Poets Cafe...

Hangin' with Lola was instant EPIC! She knew everyone! Okey her Popz just so happened to be jazz saxophonist Pat LaBarbera, best known for playin' with Elvin Jones. [I could go on forever about all the inspiring folkz I met.] So one nite she ditches me, TYPICAL, nah, to go check out Elvin's bass playa's gig. I agreed to meet her latez after checkin' Giant Step's listening party for SIMPLY GOOD MUSIC VOL 1. at APT.

I set off to find the club with my handy little map on a Tuesday nite. This keen little mamasita turned up too early, but as a result, befriended the most sweetest bartender, SPAM! [Yep his name was SPAM! His girlfriend was Tiombe Lockhart! LUV HER!] Anywayz, I told him how I was a musician tryin' to seek out my global family of underground SOULheadz. After chattin' a bit about sneaker spotz and another glass of liquid courage, he said hey why don't I just introduce ya to The Giant Step crew. Huh?

First came Bobbito! "Hey Bobbito, meet AMALIA from Vancouver." Bobbito replied, "Welcome to New York, here have some chicken!" "Hey meet Maurice Bernstein." A real solid dude, I was soOOo intimidated! I mean I knew no one, literally walked off the street and here I was asking Maurice why he moved from London to New York?

After an awkward 10 minutes or so, he pulled over a guy, "Ya know what? You should work with this cat." The curly haired kinda shy guy was Nickodemus.

Yep, here's my muze. Tried followin' it up BUT geesh I was a nobody, a wet behind the nose nerdy pantz. Oh well.

Miz Fuze thanx Lola's NEW YORK for helpin' build her hustle. From itty bitty 'Ditchmond' she roamed from Harlem to Stockholm with joy in each and every ribbit ribbit.

Supa Nerdz!

Brasilian pandeiro player Sergio Krakowski is visiting us with fellow percussionist and Swedish irmão Thomas Wingren. They're all SUPA NERDZ! I LOVE NERDZ! I'm sitting back, enjoyin' the polyrhythmz, YAYA, lettin' my mouth hit the floor, gigglin' as it continues to pour bucketloadz of rain this Swedish Summer! WTF!!!

Sergio's been developing a real-time computer music system that reacts to the Pandeiro. Absolute craZiness! Seriously this dude is a GENIUS! Not only a musician but a master in mathematics. Figures eh? I can count how many musicians are Physicists.

I'll put triggerin' footage up from today lates, in the meantime check this!

Stockholm JAZZ Festival

SHAZZZAM! 5 days of SOUL & JAZZ!!! My Canadian homie Brownman is playin' with Guru's Jazzmatazz July 18th! Will be so good to hear him live again. He and I go wayyyy back. He blew me out of the water over 10 years ago while on tour with Esthero. It took till 2003 for us to play 2geth. T'was the Honeyjam showcase in Toronto during the whole Eastern Seaboard Blackout! REMEMBER THAT?!

Brown and I chillin' in a parking lot waitin' for the craZiness to subside, talkin' about Randy Brecker, ladies, Tdot, NYC. Will never forget seein' this one dude strokin' his pet python on the front porch as he tuned into the radio for updates. [YEsssS a snake, get that mind out of the gutter! haha]

Meshell Ndegeocello, Sonny Rollins, Raul Midon, Leela James, McCoy Tyner, Headhunters, Gilberto GIL, Booker T, Roy Hargrove, Erykah Badu are all comin'!!! Check the lineup here!

Try this!

The TONE MATRIX, is a cute little sine wave synthesizer triggered by a simple 16 step sequencer. My fingers stumbled on it while cozied up in bed last nite. INSTANT fun in around 5.5 seconds!!! Just wish there was a way I could save my ideas other than takin' a screen save of it. haha ;-P

Stockholm Underground

Today is Sweden's National Holiday, most are waving their flagz high, me? I'm paying respects to the artists that make the Stockholm underground, The Tunnelbana, one of the most interesting art installations in the country since the 1950's. Over 140 artists have contributed. Supa dope.

Some folkz dig and some don't. Some stations are beautiful and some are just ridiculously tacky!!! Be it rainbows or "I dunno, what is that supposed to be?" Above are some picz from my fave station! ;-D

Fact: The Swedish architect Alfred Grenander has designed more than seventy underground and elevated station buildings in Berlin. His style evolved from decorative to modernist between 1902 and 1930. ;-) Check the MetroArts!

Miz Fuze sez celebrate Sweden & creativity with her!!!

THE LIGHT!

SHE IS! Another SUPREME MUSICAL FORCE, my soul sis and dear friend DEBORAH JORDAN has just launched her DEBUT album, THE LIGHT in the US today! Deborah is probably the most kindest, most giving, and most nurturing musician I know besides my girl Zenobia back home.

Be it singing with 4Hero, Robert Mitchell, Silhouette Brown's - Whose In Charge, haha, yep that tune helped me quit my crappy dayjob in a past life - Her angelic voice, sigh, and her healing words. The 3 tunez in her myspace playa are golden rayz of hope. Let Go wit Atjazz and the RepLife collab! OH MY LANTERNZ! [Still keepin' with the theme of light. hehe]

I truly LOVE and appreciate this LADY and want you all to obsessively fall in love with her as quickly as possible, soOOo...go on then!

SUN RA: LECTRIC TRIBUTE 7/22 & 7/28

Just got word. Check Saturn Never Sleeps!

MS. ONE & THE GANG

On the subject of 1. I had to cycle some + out to ONE of the supreme musical forces of the NU WORLD!

BEATMAKER / PRODUCER / VOCALIST FROM OUTASPACE!!!

THE WONDROUS GEORGIA ANNE MULDROW. I know many of ya know of her divinity, but for those who haven't listened, do check her nu album Georgia Anne Muldrow Presents Ms. One & The Gang. "Mr President" socks it right to ya harder than Missy Elliot ever could. Oh and Maryetta Moore's Head Of My Soul hehe. Get it here!

In total there are 21 trax produced by Ms. One, featuring herself and many folkz on the mic. There are definitely some faves - like I said Maryetta Moore! Dudley Perkins on Divinely Free, D-MOE, Turiya's smile has that Steviesque-4Hero vibe, Illicit Child's Far Behind hits the spot too. Nuttin' short of unpredictable...

Her FIRST album Olesi: Fragments of an Earth, had me FREAKIN' OUT as soon as I heard the trax NOWADAYZE & BECAUSE 3 yearz agogogogo. Georgia's vocal bass lines let alone her harmonies are from another place and time! ;-D

Miz Fuze NEEDS to record NOW!

Quote of the Year!

"Amidst the attention given to the sciences as how they can lead to the cure of all diseases and daily problems of mankind, I believe that the biggest breakthrough will be the realization that the arts, which are conventionally considered ‘useless,’ will be recognized as the whole reason why we ever try to live longer or live more prosperously."

- John Maeda via The universe will fly like a bird

Once upon a time, I had a Reebok endorsement and was hunting for sneakz online. I stumbled across John's Reebok Freestyle and had to have em! Didn't get em. ;-( Little would I know that the designer was also a prolific computer scientist. ;-)

Art & Science ARE 1.

This Dutch dude, Theo Jansen, has been movin' my fam and I for a while now. Perhaps a modern day Da Vinci? My fave kinetic sculpture is his cardboard-cubistic-rhino!
